Recorded during POWERHOUSE's first club night as out of power, Versailles journeys through her crate of trippy and dubby rhythms
About Versailles
Versailles is a multi-genre selector from Manila. She is the showrunner of POWERHOUSE, an imprint for tough and frisky dance music, and; its sub-imprint out of power, focused on music for relieving the pressure. Since 2021, Versailles has been a resident of Refuge Worldwide, a Berlin-based radio station where she hosts Master Selector, a show dedicated to easy listening music.
In the Manila club circuit, Versailles’ sets shuffle through densely layered repetitions of a tough and swinging sound that is informed by her cross-generational understanding of dance music. She is a fierce experimentalist who defies dogmatism, weaving idiosyncratic genres into unpredictable moments. She is a resident DJ of transit records, an electronic music collective that has performed in parties and radio stations throughout Europe and Asia.
As Sai Versailles, she is an organizer who has participated in public discussions on music, art, culture, and creativity, including collaborations with Boiler Room, VICE, NTS Radio, Resident Advisor, Mixmag, CTM Festival, Goethe-Institut, British Council, and Metropolitan Museum of Manila, among others. She is a volunteer at Manila Community Radio, and is the founding digital editor of Rolling Stone Philippines.
What were the idea behind this mix? How and where was it recorded?
This mix was recorded on November 6, 2025 in Apotheka, Poblacion, during my set at POWERHOUSE’s first event as “out of power,” its sub-imprint dedicated to music for relieving the pressure. It’s a journey, particularly of my trip-hop and downtempo crate, but also jazz, dub, breakbeat, hip-hop, and more. It’s music for chilling out.
The set was 2 hours, 20 minutes and we transformed the club into a giant living room. We served miso soup and ran a 10-hour video projection of nature videos. There was incense and it was chill. Listen with the lights dim.
What’s the kind of pressure you think we deal with too much?
The pressure of constantly having to find new music. As a DJ and selector, it’s how you distinguish your sound from everyone else’s. The pandemic expedited the advent of recorded and streamed DJ sets — whether in video or audio — stirring unprecedented change; each performance, radio show, and/or podcast demanding something fresh and new.
We are at a saturation point, a deluge of DJ sets, and I have very little time to dig for new music. So here are some of my recent digs, music I’ve played before, and bangers that never get old.
